Shrimp Dip
A Holiday Tradition

The holiday season is here, and it’s time to gather with friends and family and enjoy special treats. In Nana’s family, the love for Shrimp Dip runs deep, a tradition cherished for as long as any of us can remember.
Two years ago, on this website’s 25th anniversary, we asked family members to rate their favorite recipes. Shrimp Dip came in as a strong second-place finisher, with Peanut Butter Nerds taking the top spot. Because, let’s face it, chocolate always wins!
Our collection includes not just one Shrimp Dip recipe, we have three! They all share shrimp and cream cheese as ingredients, but differences abound. Let’s explore each version and see what makes them unique.
Variation 1: The Original
This is Nana's classic recipe, a beloved staple at family gatherings. Guests usually head straight for this creamy dip the moment they arrive!
This version calls for an electric hand mixer to blend cream cheese, fresh salad shrimp, mayonnaise and garlic powder into a smooth dip destined to rapidly meet a potato chip.
Variation 2: Chunky
This flavorful Shrimp Dip twist comes from Jackie Spencer. Savory seasonings, and a satisfying crunch from fresh celery and green onions, make this version fresh and unique.
The use of whole shrimp makes it hearty. The chunky consistency separates it from the other two variations that are smooth.
Variation 3: Simplicity
This is the easiest version to prepare and similar to variation 1, but lower in both fat, and ingredient costs. Nana’s son, David, concocted this version to avoid mayonnaise and also found that inexpensive canned shrimp does a good job of flavoring the dip.
Truth be told, he was lazy and just wanted some shrimp dip fast. Full disclosure: He’s also the one writing these updates!
